Good paste is 90% of a good mehndi session. Here is a simple, reliable method.
You will need
- 20g body-art quality henna powder (about two heaped tablespoons)
- ~100ml lukewarm water, plus lemon juice or a little sugar if you like
- A non-metal bowl and spoon
Method
- Sift if needed, then add water slowly, stirring one direction until the paste looks like thick yogurt with no dry pockets.
- Cover the bowl and rest 4–8 hours (overnight is ideal) so the dye releases.
- Stir, adjust the consistency with a few drops of water, and fill your cone or applicator.
- Apply, keep the paste on for 2–6 hours, scrape off — and let the stain deepen over the next 48 hours.
Common mistakes
Using boiling water (it dulls the dye), over-thinning the paste, and rushing the rest period. Body-art quality powder makes the rest easy.
